7012R - Retro Vintage Teak Atel Wall Unit Open Bookcase / Cocktail Cabinet / 4 Door Cabinet

A fabulous example of mid-century modern design; even though there are no makers marks, we are pretty certain it was made in Melbourne, Australia by Atel Furniture Pty Ltd.  The firm was established in 1963 in Bathurst (NSW) and was liquidated in 1982.  They were renown for producing high quality, stylish and multi-functional units.  It features;

  • teak timber, teak timber veneer, cam & pin construction
  • circa early to mid 1960’s
  • spacious open bookcase
  • drop-front mirror-back drinks cabinet with suspended shelf
  • 4 door cabinet
  • complete & matching inset contour timber handles
  • 6 level-adjusting timber legs
  • 4 height adjustable timber shelves (x 2 bookcase, x 2 cabinet)
  • due to the cam & pin fittings, the top can be fully dismantled leaving the base as one piece, making it easy to transport

Condition overview; in good condition relative to its age, it is a solid, well-made piece.  The drop front and doors all work well.  There are no chips or cracks in the mirror however there are a couple of small age-related spots on it (couldn’t capture in a photo).  As to be expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock and surface marks (including to the top of the left-hand side base cabinet).  In addition, there is some chipping to the edges of the laminate in the cocktail cabinet.

Dimensions; 1850mm wide x 450mm deep (drop front cabinet open; 890mm deep) x 1875mm high. Servery top open; 785mm high.  Internal cabinet depth; 415mm deep.  Internal bookcase depth; 280mm deep.
