A fabulous example of mid-century modern design; even though there are no makers marks, it was made in Melbourne, Australia by Atel Furniture Pty Ltd.  The firm was established in 1963 in Bathurst (NSW) and was liquidated in 1982.  They were renown for producing high quality, stylish and multi-functional units.  It features;

  • teak timber, teak timber veneer, cam & pin construction
  • circa early to mid-1960’s
  • exquisite wood grain figuring
  • open bookcase
  • drop front cocktail / drinks cabinet / writing desk
  • dual sliding door cabinet
  • 4 drawers
  • complete & matching metal handles
  • 6 level adjustable metal legs
  • 5 height adjustable timber shelves
  • due to the cam & pin fittings, the top can be dismantled into approximately 6 pieces, leaving the base as one piece, making it easy to transport

Condition overview; in good condition relative to its age, a very solid, well-made piece.  The drop front, doors and drawers all work well.  As to be expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock (including to the front corner edge of the drop-front servery) and surface marks (particularly to the top of the cocktail cabinet).  In addition, the paint finish is worn in some areas of the handles and legs.  Also, a repair has been made to the right-hand strut base of the drop-front at some point.

Dimensions; 1540mm wide x 455mm deep (drop front cabinet open; 890mm deep) x 1825mm high. Servery top open; 790mm high.  Internal depths; (top section); 260mm deep, (base); 400mm deep, (cocktail) 415mm deep.
