6914R - Retro Vintage Maple Display Cabinet / Bookcase – Dual Glass Sliding Doors
This delightful, English made piece, has a slim-line design; perfect for a hallway or on any space challenged room. Previously known as The Richmond Safe Company, they operated until around 1840 when they located to offices on Withy Grove and renamed the company the Withy Grove Stores. From here the company expanded to have stores in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, later branching out into selling various items including furniture. They still exist today, and from what I can gather, it appears that in the last 50 or so years they returned to their original core business of specialising in selling safes. It features;
- maple timber & maple veneer construction
- circa 1950’s
- beautiful wood grain figuring
- dual sliding glass doors
- single door cabinet
- 3 tier bookcase
- 3 fixed height adjustable shelves (removable)
- plinth base
- Bakelite makers plate; Withy Grove Stores Ltd, Manchester
Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, it is a solid, well-made piece. All of the doors work well. As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock and surface marks (particularly to the top). In addition, to the bottom left-hand corner of the left-hand side glass door, the glass is chipped, however it is solid and intact.
Dimensions; 1220mm wide x 245mm deep x 835mm high. Internal depth; 200mm deep.
